Trash Collection on Jekyll Island Beginning Aug. 1, 2011, Waste Management assumed responsibility for collecting trash, recyclables and yard waste on Jekyll Island. Waste Management furnished 90-gallon, roll-out containers and recycling bins to each residence. Until this date, the Jekyll Island Authority was responsible for trash pick-up. Regulations for trash pickup remained the same, with some exceptions. Waste Management will pick up each Wednesday various recyclable items (see list below), where residents formerly had to take these to the recycling center on the south side of the island. Also, certain restrictions on yard waste were imposed by Waste Management (see below). The trash collection fee for one container is $27.50 a month, with the billing continuing to be done by JIA. For an additional $7 a month, Waste Management will roll the container to and from the street. For inquiries about trash collection, call the Jekyll Island Authority at 635-4097 or Waste Management at 1-800 525-3109.
