JICANet was started nearly 10 years ago in response to resident needs
to communicate the actions that were being taken by their own civic organization
and by the Jekyll Island Authority. It is a dedicated Email service that sends
out issues to its mailing list subscribers. Initially it was run through the
private email accounts of residents, more recently it has evolved into a webmail
service, which is an integral part of JekyllCitizens.Org.
Who does it represent?
JICANet receives its information from nearly every organization on the
island, including the Jekyll Island Authority. The content is sent to the
JICANet editor for inclusion in the next issue. Issues are sent out between 80
and 100 times per year. Each issue has a series number and date, topic list, and
then the stories themselves. A major responsibility of JICANet is to publish
quickly, "unofficial" minutes of the Jekyll Island Citizens Association and
Jekyll Island Authority board meetings, that are held most months on the
island.
Because JICANet is email, an effort is made to keep it an all-text document.
This has the advantage of quick downloads and easy use on mobile hand-held
devices. The email content can contain links (URL's) so that if the content is
extremely long or graphically intensive, a link is given to an appropriate web
page. Send copy to jicanet@jekyllcitizens.org.
