JIMGA provides a variety of golfing opportunities for the full and part-time residents. Different games, including individual and team events, are played each week on Thursday. JIMGA uses the USGA handicap system to ensure that players with different skill levels feel competetive and can have fun. Hole-In-One Pool Cost $5.00 to get in. Pool is divided by number JIMGA member Hole-In-Ones during year.
New Members without a handicap will be enrolled in the USGA system. Within a few weeks of play he will establish a handicap. The cost of establishing a handicap is included in JIMGA dues.
Membership in JIMGA is open to all players. Jekyll residents and a significant number of part-time winter visitors are members. Membership currently costs $40 per year. This includes the USGA Handicap System.
Four Golf Courses: Oleander, Indian Mound, Pine Lakes, and Great Dunes are available for play. Players call (912)-635-2368. The Director of Golf is Spencer Brookman.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Off-island play, sponsored by JIMGA, is sometimes available so members get a chance to play different courses at reasonable rates. JIMGA also belongs to the inter Club Competition group. JIMGA members compete against players from other clubs. Play is governed by USGA Rules and local rules. This is handicapped low net competition.
Golfing Opportunities
JIMGA sponsors many tournaments and social events. here are examples:
December Three Amigos Scramble Tournament
Janurary Johnny Paulk two-man team event.
February features the President's Cup match play event.
March highlights the winter golf season with the Memorial Tournament, where members compete for low net and low gross awards. The low gross winner in the First Flight is declared the overall Club champion.
April Pro cup event. Members put on one of two teams with Golf Pro and play a Ryder Cup type format.
Players have formed groups to provide golf opportununities. Included are: Pins and Skins, Mavericks (low net), Crocketts (quota play), and Mulligans (red tees). These Groups welcome new members.
