Leisure time on Jekyll Island is enjoyed in a great many ways. There are three 18-hole and one 9-hole golf courses, 13 clay-surface tennis courts, a world-class croquet lawn, more than 20 miles of bicycle paths, fantastic opportunities for birding, a fishing pier and a boat launch ramp, many nature trails and about nine miles of beaches. If you would rather stay inside, you can almost always find a bridge game -- and mah jongg is very big on Jekyll Island. You can charter boats at the marina or take a dolphin or fishing tour from the Jekyll Wharf. In the summer, there are turtle walks on the beaches and if you're very lucky you just might see one of the many 300-pound loggerhead turtles that nest here. The summer also is a big splash at Summer Waves, a water park that offers thrills for young and old. If swimming in the ocean isn't for you, there are season passes available for the pool at the Jekyll Island Club Hotel or daily passes for the Beachview Club pool.
